The GPS Support department at Mutual of Omaha has an immediate opening for an energetic and driven Supervisor, Group Services. This individual will supervise and supports team functions involving a high level of product complexity and/or financial risk within a customer service department. They will oversees performance of subordinates and execution of department, division, and Company initiatives to improve business processes and foster profitable growth. They are also responsible for the monitoring and coaching of subordinate staff to ensure performance expectations are met. This supervisor will conducts short range planning and as! sist with planning and implementing long range organizational ! projects and initiatives. Potential candidates will be responsible for the following:
Plans, organizes, staffs, leads and controls activities pertaining to Group Services including: Planning projects and capital human resource budgets; inteviewing, selecting and training subordinates; monitoring and appraising performance of direct reports to hold them accountable for end results including human resource management; coaching and motivating direct reports; administering discplinary action as needed; administering compensation to direct reports; ensuring that Group Services complies with affirmative action guidelines.
Ensures all daily activities support the Area efforts to meet or exceed corporate policies, procedures and/or directives. Ensures that all new legislation, mandates and legal requirements are analyzed and information is disseminated to the appropriate functional areas for review and implemenation. Identifies areas of non-compliance, developing proce! dures to modify and/or enhance existing processes and initiates corrective action.
Organizes, monitors, measures and controls area workflow. Establishes and maintains quality and time service standards assuring timely service to internal and external customers, while ensuring expenses are managed appropriately. May develop and implement quality assurance programs.
Develops staff through training, communication and delegation of responsibility. Establishes, implements and monitors training requirements and effectiveness. Develops and demonstrates strong leadership skills in the areas of talent, visionary and business leadership.
Establishes and maintains effective internal and external working relationships within Division and throughout the Companies to ensure support and attainment of Division and Corporate goals and objectives, and ensures effectiveness of the operation.
Leads and participates in project activities initiated to enhance customer satisfactio! n, corporate profitability, productivity and/or quality. Researches and! analyzes trends and changes across operations based on customer feedback, as well as the overall insurance industry, and develops related plans to improve operational performance.
Supports operational risk activities for all Benefit Solutions products sold and administered by the Companies, while meeting or exceeding expense management objectives.
Monitors daily operational risk activities, including quality and quantity of work, and corrects minor workflow problems. (ongoing)
Maintains an awareness of existing industry market trends. Develops plans and strategies for the department to meet established profitability, expense management and persistency goals.
Partners with Underwriting to ensure the proper selection of risk as detemined by established processes and practices to ensure they are managed within guidelines. Collaborates with Legal, Compliance or other internal parties as appropriate for decisions outside guidelines to ensure appropriate assessme! nt of risk.
Ability to remain composed during times of litigation and/or settlement for the Company, or trips to the Department of Insurance to discuss the Company's processes.
Effectively represents the department as a subject matter expert within and outside of the Division/Operation. Interacts frequently with key external customers and internal stakeholders. Handles a significant volume of escalated issues. Exercises appropriate discretion in formulating and implementing department business decisions. Reviews, analyzes and takes appropriate action to resolve customer issues, attorney inquiries, Presidential correspondence, insurance department, consumer, or product threats, complaints and inquiries.
Achieves service and operation objectives by collaborating, evaluating, recommending and assisting with the implementation of various risk management strategies, guidelines and programs in alignment with maintaining the financial viability of the organization.
Partners in the development of vendor requests for electronic interfac! es in order to maintain strong vendor relationships while ensuring both persistency and profitability are achieved thereby limiting exposure to operational risks.Responsible for building and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal and external customers to maximize policyholder satisfaction. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with policyholders, brokers and/or field offices. May attend or conduct onsite meetings as appropriate.
This job requires a background that demonstrates the following minimum knowledge, skills, talents and traits:
Strong human relations skills with demonstrated ability to work with both internal and external customers to resolve issues and exert influence as appropriate
Personal computer operation with skills in various software applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail and presentation
Seasoned supervisory or leadership experience
Extensive product, distributi! on and industry knowledge
Strong judgement, communication, presentation, planning, and organizational skills
Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Understanding of Corporate policies, philosophies, and objectives
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
May require department-specific licensure, certifications, and/or designations
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
5 years of Group Insurance experience
Proven ability to engage and motivate a team
Significant experience in a production environment
Strong process and change management skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong relationship building skills, including working with field offices/remote locations
