Law Clerk

Law clerks assist and support attorneys and others in the Legal Department complete research and analysis of legal issues to provide advice and support to company operations. The position will be a temporary full-t! ime position during the summer and during school breaks and 5-15 hours per week during the school year working in our Omaha corporate headquarters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Timely research, analyze, and respond to legal questions presented by attorneys to support the operations of Company Departments relating to general corporate law, health insurance law, general employee benefits law, and various other areas.
Advise the General Counsel and various management employees and company officers regarding legal issues and concerns to ensure appropriate Company consideration
Draft, review, and revise various contracts, including vendor contracts, provider agreements, administrative service agreements, health insurance contracts, and self-funded employee health plan documents.
Analyze and review proposed or existing legislation to determine its applicability to Company operations or the operations of Companyâs individu! al and employer group customers.
Assist with conferen! cing with outside attorneys that interact with Company in various ways and provide various factual or legal responses to facilitate resolution of various issues.
Participate in, facilitate, or direct various operational project teams or committees, including the medical policy committee, quality committee and various ad hoc project operational committees or work teams.
Represent the Company in various forums and circumstances, including with administrative or regulatory agencies.
Must meet or exceed the attendance and timeliness requirements of their departments.
Must work well in a team environment, and be capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with other staff, departments, and customers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A good candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and experience working in an office or professional environment, excellent writing and analytical skills and a solid academi! c background. Qualified candidates will be detail-oriented, have the ability to work both within a team structure and independently, and be a self-starter.
Education and Training:
Bachelors Degree is required.
Other Advanced Education:
Must have completed one year at a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and continuing law school education. Preference given for high performing to applicants in the top 50th percentile of class ranking based on grades
Experience Required:
An eligible candidate must have completed the first year of law school and be a current student in good standing at an ABA-accredited law school.
At least one year of work in an office environment preferred.
Insurance industry experience preferred with priority given to any experience with health insurance regulatory work or regulatory work in the health care delivery field.
Preference also given to appli! cants with significant prior work experience in a corporate environment! .
