Description: Union Pacific is currently seeking to employ Mechanical Serv Operator - Loc right now, this position will be settled in Nebraska. Mechanical Service Operators assist in the movement of locomotives in the shop area; perform service, cleanup and fueling of locomotives; and operate a forklift.
Accountabilities
Perform air brake tests.
Communicate effectively with team members via hand radio and hand signals on service track.
Accurately transcribe numbers and English words onto forms.
Detect and interpret visual color signals and displays at near and far distances, use depth perception to judge speed and distance of locomotives being moved on service area, and hearing sufficient to detect warning signals.
Safely and effectively operate shop machines and tools such as high-pressure steam cleaning equipment, locomotive cranes, and sand cranes.
Understand and follow company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures, wear prescribed safety apparel; take appropriate action when conditions threaten safety of self or coworkers; ensure equipment and work area are in safe operating condition before starting work..
Provide locomotives with all necessary materials (drinking water, sand, spare pa! rts, etc.).
Scrape engine car body and spray engine p! arts with solvents to remove grease, oil, and/or sludge.
Inspect materials, equipment, and machinery for any defects or unsafe conditions.
Clean assigned areas (sweep floors, empty trash, clean parts, and remove residue off of floors).
Operate locomotives between various shop locations, service tracks, and switching areas.
Maintain balance and careful footing on various surfaces working around surrounding equipment and materials.
Line switches and operate derails to assist hostlers.
Lift and carry 40 pounds (frequently) and up to 86 pounds (rarely-often with assistance); push/pull at a minimum of 50 pounds.

Medical

WorkConditions
Must wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection where the company requires. In addition, they must become respirator certified. They will be working:
Indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.
At heights of 18 feet or more above the ground.
With, on, and around moving or rotating heavy equipment.
In confined spaces.
Working forty-hour work weeks that may include variable shifts with overtime and work on rest days, holidays and weekends.
Travel may be required
The pay rate for this position is set by the union agreement and cannot be individually negotiated.
Must have zero work related safety violations in the past two years
Ensure compliance with all r! ailroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Must practice safe work habits to prevent on the job accidents and injuries. Must utilize all protective equipment assigned
Compliance with the applicable attendance policy is an essential function of this position
Must be willing and able to work around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives and cranes
