Determines liability for bodily injury and property damage claims, including investigating claims, communicating with involved parties, setting reserves, and settling with claimants and at! torneys.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides assistance, leadership, and training to claims adjusters.
- Investigates bodily injury and property damage claims and negotiates settlements based upon applicable laws.
- Sets reserves for bodily injury and property damage claims.
- Approves or denies payments for expenses related to bodily injury and property damage claims.
- Investigates extent of property damage and reviews repair estimates to ensure charges match the degree of property loss.
- Reviews medical records in order to determine if injuries are consistent with the bodily injury claim.
- Provides assistance and leadership to other liability claims adjusters.
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships.
- Recommends changes as necessary to policies, practices, and training related to the handling of claims.
- Ta! kes after-hours calls relating to accidents and injuries or ot! her safety-related issues.
- Travels as needed to attend depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials.
- Receives and carries out instructions.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- Communicates effectively, including corresponding with legal counsel and claimants.
- Solves problems and makes decisions independently and proactively.
- Performs work requiring advanced knowledge while consistently exercising discretion and judgment.
- Demonstrates effective leadership.
- Manages multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Possesses knowledge of claims and litigation processes, including negligence laws in assigned states.
- Displays knowledge of the transportation industry.
- Demonstrates ability to review and analyze medical information, including proper reserving techniques for injury claims.
- Uses computers and software programs proficie! ntly.
- Exhibits ability to read, write, talk, and hear; add, subtract, multiply, and divide; and lift and/or move up to 10 lbs as required.
Bachelor's degree and eight to ten years of claims adjusting experience, or equivalent combination of other education and experience.
