This position is for a National Guard Non-Dual status (NDS) technician only. The position meets the criteria of the NDS Manag! ement plan as follows: The position resides within the infrastructure and supports functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization nor is the work described part of the military mission and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administration role that is inherently military. For this reason, veterans' preference is not used for hiring and retention. This position is located in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA), of the Joint Force Headquarters (State). This office provides legal assistance/advice to the Adjutant General and to Army and Air National Guard Personnel. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an assistant, under the supervision of the Staff Judge Advocate, in the administration and coordination of legal activities for the state. The incumbent will al! so provide technical and procedural guidance and support to un! it commanders and legal personnel as required in the accomplishment of a variety of administrative and clerical duties necessary for effective and efficient operation of the program.

NOTE: Start date of this position will be determined once Fiscal Year 2014 appropriations (Budget) have been passed or additional guidance is received.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 0730-1600 KEY REQUIREMENTS

Typing Requirement DUTIES:
Perform extensive research in regulations, policies, procedures, case law, and opinions to provide assistance to staff attorneys in the development of case files

Review body of laws or regulations to determine appropriate, current, and pertinent legal precedence

Interview potential witnesses and provide background devel! opment summaries of all testimonial evidence for attorney review and discussion

Maintain case files and correct file deficiencies or discrepancies

Provide assistance and information to clients on legal rights, benefits, privileges, and obligations

Provide assistance to serviced units concerning the administrative preparation, coordination, and implementation of documents regarding military justice

Perform a variety of administrative/clerical support functions to insure the effective operation of the office and legal assistance programs QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Typing Requirements: Applicants must self-certify a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute with 3 or fewer errors.

Specialized Experience: One year of directly related experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level. Qualifying specialized experience includes but is not limited to:

performing research in regulations, policies, procedu! res, and case law of military, state, and civilian codes to provide ass! istance to staff attorneys

preparing legal summaries to be used as part of a case or trial development

assisting in the interview of potential witnesses

maintaining and correcting case file deficiencies and discrepancies

providing legal assistance and legal information to clients

performing a variety of administrative support functions such as receiving and screening phone calls, receiving visitors and preparing reports
