UNIT SECRETARY (PART-TIME, ALTERNATE WORK SHIFT)
UW Medical Center - Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for an ALTERNATE WORK-SHIFT, PART-TIME (24 HOURS A WEEK), UNIT SECRETARY. The Unit Secretary functions as receptionist for the unit, a fast-paced and busy environment, and performs clerical duties to assist other staff members and support the efficient functioning of the unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answers telephones using defined etiquette standards; routes calls and messages, greets and directs visitors and offers assistance, answers questions and follows through on inquiries, facilitates and acts as a positive liaison between the unit and other departments
Maintains office equipment, inventories, orders, and restocks office supplies, organizes work area in the unit station, assists in maintaining a neat and organized work environment at unit nursing station
Assists with patient admissions, transfers and discharges, assembles patient records, demonstrates accuracy in transcription and order management, enters transfers and discharges into the computer, copies charts; prepares charts for Medical Records on discharge
Reviews MD orders and submits orders to Lab, Diagnostic Imaging, prioritizes work and completes work in a timely manner; able to multi-task effectively
Answers patient intercom system effectively; responds appropriately to patient’s needs and/or alerts/refers to other unit staff members, assists with communication plan related to patients’ safety risks.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Typing speed of 25+ wpm
DESIRED:
Six months previous unit secretary experience preferred (completion of a unit secretary/medical terminology course may substitute for experience)
