Union Pacific seeks a trial attorney to join its Law Department in Omaha to prosecute and defend a wide variety of commercial litigation, including property damage claims, collection matters, mineral rights matters, quiet tit le actions, and business disputes. The successful candidate will represent the Company's interests in trial courts, appellate courts and before administrative agencies and work closely with stakeholders to develop and drive legal strategies.
Function as primary attorney in litigated property damage claims, collection matters, mineral rights matters, quiet title actions, and a variety of business disputes. The attorney will work with the Risk Management team, the Real Estate Department, Law Department colleagues across the system and other stakeholders to: defend Union Pacific in federal and state court; enforce Union PacificÂ’s rights and maximize its business opportunities; identify and mitigate franchise risk; improve delivery and outcome of legal services; and ensure all litigated matters meet company goals. On a case-by-case basis, the attorney will serve as trial attorney and in other matters manage outside counsel. Further develop and apply Law Department litiga tion protocols. This accountability includes keeping the Supervising Attorney advised on case status/strategy; developing and meeting case budgets; efficiently using Law Department systems for case management; and participating in case reviews. Partner with Risk Management and other stakeholders. The attorney will work to develop standard approaches for specific litigated case types; work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve disputes pre-litigation; and engage and collaborate with Law Department colleagues and other stakeholders on various non-litigated legal matters. Work as a key member of the commercial litigation team to support all matters that report to the Sr. Counsel Ââ€" Commercial Litigation and Vice President - Litigation.
A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited institution 3 years of litigation experience in both state and federal courts Proficient interpersonal skills and strong initiative Proficient negotiation skills as well as superior academic credentials and exceptional drafting skills Admission to a state bar
