NMPP Energy seeks a legal assistant in our corporate law department to work with our General Counsel and Staff Attorney relative to organizational contracts. The Legal Assistant is responsible to process, track, scan, and file incoming and outgoing contracts; maintain our internal contract database and create reports; coordinate and communicate with staff regarding contract status, comments, and requests for information; and to prepare drafts of contracts and correspondence.
NMPP Energy is a non-profit coalition of nearly 200 municipally-owned utility systems in the Central and Mountain states. ! We provide wholesale electricity, wholesale and retail natural! gas, and utility services to member municipalities, most of which are small, rural communities. This is accomplished through four separate organizations under the NMPP Energy umbrella: Nebraska Municipal Power Pool (NMPP), Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN), National Public Gas Agency (NPGA), and the Public Alliance for Community Energy (ACE).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive incoming contracts, compare incoming contracts with copy, scan and route contracts to appropriate parties, and email daily contract notifications to staff.
- Create entries in contract database, including scanning and uploading contracts; create and distribute monthly contract reports to staff and follow up on contract status.
- Create hardcopy files, file and retrieve contracts, remove terminated contracts and incorporate into storage. Maintain historical document files to track changes in form agreements and governance documents.
- Prepare d! raft contracts for attorney review.
- Draft correspondence with members and counterparties regarding contracts.
- Process daily tickler notifications from contract database and coordinate with staff to determine necessary actions
- Schedule appointments with Executive Director for contract signing, draft letters, and mail executed contracts.
- Schedule meetings, draft and edit documents, organize and electronically file reports, and perform other administrative duties.
1. Associates degree in business, legal studies, or related discipline and 1-3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Paralegal training or legal experience a plus.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software, and the ability to conduct internet research. Experience with Lexis or Casemaker a plus.
3. Demonstrated attention to detail.
