The Law Clerk is responsible for providing assistance with legal and factual data compilation and analysis to the Legal and Compliance Departments of NorthStar Financial Services Group, LLC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
LEGAL DOCUMENTS
⢠Maintains and organizes document files and related correspondence.
⢠Drafts and reviews various agreements, cor! respondence, legal memoranda, opinions, and other documents relating to business of NorthStar and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
⢠Assists in preparation of regulatory filings and related correspondence.
LEGAL ASSISTANCE
⢠Provides assistance to Legal and Compliance Departments by performing assigned technical tasks under immediate supervision of attorneys and other legal staff.
⢠Performs research as requested under applicable laws, statutes and regulations.
⢠Collects, records, organizes, and analyzes data relative to research of legal issues.
⢠Researches and analyzes law sources to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
⢠Performs clerical duties such as making preparations for compliance meetings.
May perform other duties as required and assigned.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS & CONTACTS
⢠Regular contact ! with legal and compliance team regarding reporting of analysis! , preparation of legal documents, clarification of duties, etc.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
⢠Knowledge of laws, government regulations, executive orders, and agency rules
⢠Ability to evaluate information to determine compliance with standards
⢠Ability to understand complex legal documents
⢠Ability to multi-task while maintaining careful attention to detail
⢠Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment
⢠Ability to work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines and address competing priorities
⢠Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials
⢠Proficient skills with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
⢠Effective written, listening and verbal communication skills
⢠Effective problem solving, organizational and time management skills
⢠Skills in critical thinking using logic and reasoning to identify the ! strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
EDUCATION: *
⢠Bachelor's degree required
⢠Current student working towards Juris Doctorate required
EXPERIENCE: *
⢠Minimum of 6 months to 1 year experience in the field or related area
*Equivalent education and experience will be considered
