Applied Underwriters has an exciting opportunity available for a driven, multi-talented individual who wants to positively impact the lives of others. This position effectively manages a caseload of complex workers' compensation indemnity claims in accordance with the companys procedures and performance standards, as well as state statutory and regulatory provisions. The ideal candidate is highly flexible and able to respond quickly to all facets of claims management. S/he must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and have! exceptional time management and negotiation skills.
! Responsibilities include:
Investigate new claims for coverage and compensability.
Set and maintain reserves for each claim.
Draft letters, notes, and reports.
Detect potential for recovery from third parties and assist with legal actions to obtain recovery.
Retain and direct private investigators to gather information and detect fraudulent claims.
Determine eligibility for medical, disability, and vocational benefits.
Manage medical care to provide rapid and complete recovery while controlling costs.
Retain and direct nurse case managers to assist with ensuring prompt and effective medical care and safe and rapid return to work.
Calculate and pay indemnity benefits.
Pay medical benefits and expense payments.
Coordinate with the injured worker, the employer, medical providers, and vocational professionals to achieve safe and rapid return to work.
Manage legal service! s and direct litigation decisions.
Negotiate claims settlements.
Ability to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life, including injured workers, employers, physicians, nurses, attorneys, private investigators, and vocational rehabilitation professionals.
Ability to learn and apply legal rules, procedures, concepts, and terminology.
Ability to learn and apply medical and pharmaceutical knowledge and terminology.
Ability to make important decisions involving complex legal and medical issues quickly and accurately.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately.
Ability to maintain the highest level of organization and attention to detail to ensure that all deadlines are met, all payments are made on time, and record-keeping is thorough and accurate.
Ability to use computer systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Proprietary Claims Managem! ent software.
An interest in one or all of the following areas! is strongly preferred; research/investigative work, journalism, sales and/or negotiation skills, health/medicine background and legal.
Associate's Degree or equivalent experience; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
