Internship (Summer 2014) - Human Resources

Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Description: Farm Credit Services of America is looking of Internship (Summer 2014) - Human Resources right now, this position will be ordered in Nebraska. The Human Resources Intern position is responsible for participation in the 10-week (40 hours/week) Intern Program with specific emphasis u! pon learning within the primary HR functions of Recruitment & Selection, Employee Relations, Benefits and Compensation. The intern position will actively participate in the assigned group intern team project, and provide an assessment of the intern program to the Human Resources Team. This position will receive an hourly wage of $15 per hour, plus $800 starting bonus (less taxes).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

1. Assist in the recruitment and selection process of FCSAmerica employees to include understanding of the applicant management system.

2. Assist in the administration of employee benefit programs to include family status changes, workers compensation and FMLA leave processes.

3. Develop an understanding of the Performance Management Process and Employee Relations function to include the options, rationale, r! isk and processes associated with performance correction.

4. Develop understanding of various Human Resource Information Systems (e.g., Resource Hire, Payroll, Self-Service and Timecard).

5. Become familiar with and assist in the development and application of various compensation related tasks (e.g., Job Evaluation, Compensation Surveys and Systems).

6. Research various Human Resource compliance laws and requirements (e.g., Title VII, FMLA, ADA, etc.) to include a fundamental understanding of how compliance applies to FCSAmerica policies and procedures.

7. Actively participate in the any project(s) assigned to the Intern Team.

8. Evaluate and provide an assessment of the Intern Program to the Human Resources team for the purpose of providing feedback for possible program enhancements.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Characteristics of an ideal candidate include: strong interest in Human Resources, self motivated, fast learner, customer service orientated. Must be currently p! ursuing a bachelor’s degree, including minimum completion of sophomore year of college coursework. Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Duties require:

  • Possess advanced computer skills. Proficient in Windows environment using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and effectively demonstrate team building attitude and skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Knowledge of Human Resource laws, programs and practices.

Farm Credit Services of America employees, applicants for employment and vendors.

  • Ability to operate telephone and respond to calls and in-person inquiries.
  • Ability to move about the office with occasional reaching and bending.
  • Ability to successfully interact with and represent the organization to staff, officers, board members, customers, and the public at all levels.
  • Ability to use a keyboard and computer. This involves reading the screen and keying/typing information.
  • Ability to travel by auto or commercial transportation to carry out essential responsibilities.
