As an Associate Short Term Disability (STD) Benefit Specialist, you will have the overall responsibility for managing disability claims in an ethical manner, ensuring quality! decisions, accurate benefit calculations, and with timely, proactive communication with claimants and employers. You will have the responsibility to facilitate the timely transfer of integrated STD claims to LTD, without interruption or delay in benefits. As an Associate STD Benefit Specialist, you will be expected to deliver a very high level of customer service.
Responsibilities
Claims
- Investigates, evaluates, interpreters and makes determination of short-term disability claims with sound and impartial claim judgments, using appropriate duration guidelines when necessary.
- Operates with the assistance and mentoring of more experienced Benefit Specialists and supervisory review of selected claims.
- Authorizes payments of claims up to $1000.
- Prioritizes and balances claims in an efficient manner while maintaining productivity, quality, and time service requirements, as outlined by senior management.
- Faci! litates effective transition of a STD claim to LTD, utilizing ! established review procedures and resources.
- Interprets short term disability contract provisions, vocational and medical information using available resources.
- Communicates with claimants, policyholders, attorneys, physicians and brokers directly either orally or written.
- Resolves claim-specific issues while maintaining internal and external customer satisfaction.
Educational
High school diploma/GED required; Undergraduate degree or 4+ years of comparable work experience preferred
Educational experience and/or proficiency in medical Terminology preferred.
Experience
0-1+ years of experience disability claims that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position.
A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations.
Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions
Drives performance targets to completion.
