The Role
As an Associate Intake Benefit Specialist you will be responsible for the fair, ethical and timely management of Short Term Disability claims. Your overall responsibilities include managing disability claims in an ethical manner, ensuring quality decisions, accurate benefit calculations, and timely, proactive communication with claimants and employers. You are expected to deliver a very high level of customer service to claimants, customers, and internal/external business partners.
Responsibilities
Claims
- Intakes of Short Term Disab! ility and Life Claims telephonically.
- Investigates, e! valuates, interprets, and determinates Short Term Disability claims with sound and impartial claim judgments based on appropriate duration guidelines.
- Performs with assistance/mentoring and supervisory review of selected claims.
- Interprets contract provisions, vocational and medical information with assistance.
- Solves problems utilizing available resources.
- Meets quality and performance standards, while following Privacy and Compliance Standards on an ongoing basis.
- Interacts with claimants, policyholders, attorneys, physicians and brokers directly either orally or written.
- Ensures internal and external customer satisfaction in the resolution of claim-specific issues. Requirements
Educational
- Associates degree or 2+ years of comparable work experience preferred Educational experience and/or knowledge of insurance terminology preferred. Experience 0-1+ years of experience disability or insurance claims that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position. A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations. Possesses a bias for action and avoids workplace distractions Drives performance targets to completion.
